Ceramics & Pottery
Lead has been traditionally used in glazes on pottery and ceramics for hundreds of years due to its low cost, efficiency and low temperature for glazing. However lead can potentially be poisonous if ingested. The department of Environment in Australia is now recommending that any ceramics containing lead should not be used for food or drink especially for children and pregnant or nursing women.
